Statistician Consultant – Food Security and Nutrition Program

Are you passionate about using data to drive impactful change in food security and nutrition? Double I. Double R. (IIRR) is seeking a dedicated Statistician to contribute to our Food Security and Nutrition Program through a short-term consultancy. This is a unique opportunity to utilize your expertise in qualitative analysis and participatory methods to support community-driven insights under the Fresh Project in Nueva Ecija, Philippines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and Analyze Photo Voice Data: Process and analyze qualitative data from Photo Voice sessions, including photographs, captions, and group discussions, to identify key themes and patterns.
  • Conduct Thematic Analysis: Interpret community narratives and experiences related to fruit and vegetable consumption.
  • Qualitative Data Management: Use software such as NVivo or MAXQDA to manage and organize data.
  • Refine Research Processes: Collaborate with project teams to refine the Photo Voice methodology, ensuring cultural and contextual relevance.
  • Develop a Coding Framework: Create a structured approach for thematic analysis, emphasizing lived experiences and community perspectives.
  • Ensure Ethical Data Handling: Maintain confidentiality and cultural sensitivity when managing sensitive data.
  • Translate Insights into Actionable Recommendations: Propose strategies to improve the availability, affordability, and consumption of fruits and vegetables.
  • Prepare Research Reports: Develop detailed reports of findings for stakeholders, including local government units, community organizations, and project partners.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other responsibilities as assigned or delegated.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics.
    • Master’s or Ph.D. in Qualitative Research, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field with expertise in participatory methods.
  • Experience:
    • 3-5 years of experience in analyzing qualitative data, particularly from participatory methods like Photo Voice.
    • Familiarity with food systems, nutrition, or public health projects in rural contexts is a strong advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in qualitative analysis tools (e.g., NVivo, MAXQDA).
    • Strong analytical skills in thematic and narrative analysis.
    • Excellent written communication skills in English.
    • Passion for participatory, community-driven research approaches.
    • Strong collaboration and team-player mindset.
